Don’t Get Caught in the “New Year’s Resolution” Trap
We are all too familiar with the idea of a New Year’s Resolution, I myself am no stranger to it. Setting goals is fun and exciting initially. Unfortunately, many of us lack follow through or give up too easily once things get hard. Don’t set yourself up for failure before you even begin. If you want to achieve your goals, you have to plan out actionable steps that are achievable. Don’t get stuck in the New Year’s Resolution trap when setting your goals for 2025.
As moms, we have so much on our plates already that it’s easy to lose sight of our goals. If you are a “mompreneur in the making” like me, stick around to see how I’m setting my goals for next year and outlining the steps that will allow me to smash those goals! The goals I’ll be working toward in 2025 prioritize my family, health, freelancing and saving for our futures.

My Mompreneur/Freelance Goals for 2025
If you’re reading this, you may be like me: a person with a lot of ambition who would love to work for themselves one day. Hi, and welcome! This is the basis for the first goal I’m setting for 2025 which is levelling up my freelance/mompreneur journey.
My strengths are my writing and content management skills. While I’ve been working to build a brand with this blog, I eventually want to be able to monetize my writing and content strategy skills. For where I am right now in my journey, building my portfolio through freelancing allows me to make a side income while also working my 9-5.
Mompreneur and Freelance Job Boards
Finding good job boards for postings is the best place to start if you are in a similar place. Here are a few resources I’ve found from Linked In and Youtube that I have found to be extremely valuable, some even specializing in work-from-home jobs and gigs for women/moms.
- The Work at Home Woman, LLC
- The Mom Project
- Moms First
- Freelancing Females
- Freelance Opportunities Newsletter
- Mom to Virtual Assistant
- Work-From-Home Mommy
- Deya’s Channel on Youtube!
Not only do they provide actual job/gig listings, but they also provide tons of useful information for women in different spaces. Deya’s channel is especially inspiring and full of really great information for freelancers.
Finding a Niche and Identifying Skills
Finding your niche can help monetize your skills as well. By niching down and specializing, you can command higher prices for your work, so this is what I’ve been working toward for the last few months. Make finding your niche and identifying your special skills a priority if you are aiming to achieve any freelance or business goals in 2025.
If you are a mom, you may have more skills to list than you might think. Maybe you are great with time management or delegating tasks to others to complete different projects. You might make a great virtual assistant if you are great at planning and organizing. Take a look within yourself and you may be surprised by what you learn.
Tips for Balancing Work and Family
This is something that I struggled with a bit at the beginning of my blogging journey. I can easily get caught up in work, especially when working for myself. I tend to sweat the details and focus too much on making things perfect. To combat this, part of my business goals for 2025 includes maintaining a work calendar and work hours, as well as setting up a dedicated work space at home.
Another method I am using to balance my work life and family life is by having regular family meetings with my husband where I keep him informed of my workload. Keeping him informed of where I’m at with work helps with our communication. This way, he doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Setting these boundaries for work vs family time helps us maintain the feeling of balance.
My Favorite Mompreneur Tools and Apps
I’m a Google Suite girly through and through. My Google calendar is separate from our family calendar and holds all of my meetings, projects, freelance work assignments, etc. I like to keep a running weekly and monthly task list in Google Calendar. And I also keep blog drafts in Google Docs and keep all my files in Google Drive as a backup!
Another tool I love is my Ultimate Digital Life Planner. It features over 60 pages of planners, goal sheets, trackers, and more! It can be used both digitally or printed out and once purchased it is yours to use as many times as you want, so be sure to check it out. Along with my other free printables.
I use the planner to write out my goals and aspirations and keep them visible at all times. The finance calendar is great for tracking my freelance/blog expenses and my expected payouts. I have also used the travel pages recently during the holidays to keep the family on track during our holiday traveling.

Fitness Goals: Showing Up for Myself in 2025
Managing and improving my health is on the forefront of my goals for 2025. I’m not getting any younger, y’all! I want to live a long and healthy life and be there for my daughter, so here’s how I’m tackling my fitness and health goals.
Staying Consistent in the Gym
I started my fitness journey in August of this year, and I did really well for a while and made some considerable progress. Unfortunately, I started to fall off in October and couldn’t maintain the strenuous routine I had set for myself in an attempt to fast track my progress. Lots of mistakes were made.
I’m setting realistic goals this time and taking small steps to ensure I’ll achieve them. Parking farther away from entrances to get more steps in, showing up to the gym even when I don’t feel like it 3-4 times a week, and keeping to my simple routine with progressive overload to see results.
Moving My Body in Other Ways
Getting in your steps is just as important as going to the gym. For me, getting outside with the family or finding time to walk is another way I plan to reach my step goals. I purchased a treadmill recently that I’ll be fixing to make this even easier, and I also plan to get a walking pad to set up in my home office. Remove all barriers to moving your body will make it much easier to do.
Meal Planning and Prepping
Planning my meals and nutrition can be harder than going to the gym most days. Keeping easy-to-eat meals in stock will make staying on plan easier and more likely. One step I will be implementing this coming year is to meal prep twice a week instead of once. I think this will help keep the food fresher and more appetizing when we go to grab it.
Deciding what to make can also be a huge pain, and inaction sometimes leads me to make bad food choices. To combat this, I’ll be starting a recipe log where I write down all of my possible meal options. That way, if I can’t come up with something, I’ll just pick a meal at random. I hope that by eliminating the stress of choosing, it will make healthy meal planning even easier.
Wife and Mom Goals: Planning Trips and Making Memories
My husband and I are all about making memories and sharing experiences with our daughter. Goals for this year include traveling more now that she will be 3 and finding fun things to do with her both locally and in other places.
I’ve already begun planning trips for next year, the first of which will be in January of 2025. Scheduling ahead and budgeting is key to effective travel planning, and it’s often cheaper to do so. Taking trips is one of our favorite things to do as a family and a great way to make memories with your kids.
Nurturing My Relationship with My Husband
Another important goal I’m setting next year is to continue nurturing my relationship with my husband. I do this by planning date nights and setting aside time to do our favorite activities together.
We love to play video games together, but there are tons of inexpensive outings or home dates you can do with your spouse to keep the connection alive. A lot of our time gets wrapped up in parenting and you can forget where it all started—with your partner.
Financial Goals: Building a Secure Future
The last set of goals I want to talk about in this blog post are the financial goals I’m setting for 2025. These are simple enough: work towards finally becoming debt free and saving for our futures.
Paying Off Debt and Becoming Debt-free
I’ve been working toward this goal for the past few years, but I believe 2025 will be the year that we will finally be able to achieve this. I designate a portion of my paycheck every week to go directly to outstanding debts. Right now, this is credit cards and a small student loan from eons ago. We did pay off a credit card this month, so we only have one more to pay off giving us a great head-start to this goal.
I followed the snowball method, and I definitely would recommend it for anyone with several forms of debt needing to be paid off. I find that it works well, but find the system that works best for you.
Building an Emergency Fund
I am ashamed to say that at this point in our life we do not have an established emergency fund! In the past we used credit cards for any emergencies which in hindsight is not the best idea. A huge financial goal for us in 2025 is to set up a dedicated emergency fund containing 6 months worth of expenses in a high yield savings account.
Setting Up Retirement and Investment Accounts
Lastly, 2025 will be the year that we finally set up Roth IRAs and investment accounts for our daughter. We plan to use part of our tax refund to kickstart them and afterward have funds directly weekly into them from our paychecks.
Along with our Roth IRAs we are also planning to set up a Custodial IRA for our daughter to help secure her future. Our hope is to use these funds for tuition costs for schools, and if possible, as a down-payment for her first home. It’s never too early to start saving for your child’s future.

Let’s Wrap This Up!
I could seriously go on and on about these topics. I’ve put a lot of work into my self this year and I truly believe that striving to meet these goals has been a large part of my success this year.
If you are someone who struggles with giving up on your goals before you can achieve them, I hope you a take away a few things from this post. Firstly, your goals don’t have to be extraordinary. Focus on making small bits of progress and creating good habits that can work towards your fitness, health, or financial goals.
Secondly, don’t compare yourself to anyone else. I share my experiences here to hopefully inspire others, but no two journeys are the same. Stay in your lane and work to become better than you were the day before!
And thirdly, you hold the keys to your own future success. Bet on yourself and you will never lose! 2025 is your year to grow, thrive, and make your dreams a reality one step at a time.
I hope everyone is excited for the new year and excited to get a head start on your goals. If you ever need some advice or want to share your wins, comment below or reach out via email or Facebook. I’d love to hear from you!
Until next time <3
