It’s that time of the month again—time to recap the books read for the month in my December reading log. If you’ve been here before you are aware of the purpose of my reading logs.
If you’re new, I picked up reading again in 2024 after a long break from it, and it’s a way for me to stay productive and not doom scroll on social media while sharing my reads from the past month. I also like to keep these logs to look back on later.
My December 2024 Reading Log
December was full of holiday prep and festivities, so I actually read the least amount of books during this month at only 7 titles. I really enjoyed everything I read this month, so I’m glad to be able to share these books with everyone! If you haven’t already, check out my past reading logs or my picks for best books of 2024 for more reading content.
Also, if you’re in need of a reading journal, check out my Ultimate Reading Journal to assist you on your own reading journey. It’s what I use for my own.
Let’s move along to what I read this month.

The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
Novel/Domestic fiction
436 pages
A collection of stories from several Chinese immigrant women and their adult daughters. The stories offer reflections of the mothers’ lives in China, their journey to the US and the differences between their stories and the ones of their American born daughters. Powerfully thoughtful stories about family, history, and culture. I especially loved the author’s introduction in the beginning about her writing process and her own mother’s stories. Will not be my last Amy Tan book. 5/5
Angelology by Danielle Trussoni
Metaphysical Fiction/Novel
675 pages
DNFd this one. An angel who has lost his wings, a young nun living in a convent and a young man who is hired to search for a cure. Didn’t get very far into this one though the premise did seem interesting. I got 100 pages in but I just couldn’t get through it. Maybe I will pick it back up sometime in the future.
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
Suspense thriller
378 pages
This story starts by following a young couple who are at a dinner party at their neighbor’s home next door. One important thing to note is that they have left their 6 month old baby alone to attend this dinner. Frequently checking on the baby every 30 mins, they finally get home at 1 in the morning where they find that their baby is missing. What follows is a dark and gripping tale of betrayal, twisted plots, and lies as the search goes on to find their baby. Absolutely loved this one, I read the entire thing in one sitting. And I would recommend it!
Pretend I’m Dead: A Novel by Jen Beagin
Novel
407 pages
Another stunner from Jen Beagin. I love her “weird” style of writing and the ability to create such interesting characters and narratives. This novel follows a 24 year old cleaning woman named Mona who’s floating aimlessly through life. She uses her position of cleaning peoples homes to infiltrate their lives and learn their deepest secrets. Soon she falls in love with a drug addict, moves across the country, meets a psychic, a culty couple and gay Jesus all while coming to terms with her own fucked up life. Loved this one like I loved Big Swiss. 5/5 would recommend.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Thriller
432 pages
Another classic thriller to add to the list. I had heard about this book for a while and finally got around to reading it. The story follows Nick and Amy Dunne who have moved from New York City to Carthage, MO against the wishes of Amy. The day of their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick finds out that his wife has been taken. Not only has she been taken, but it begins to look like Nick may be responsible for her disappearance. Lots of secrets get revealed and, spoiler alert, they both turn out to be actually psychotic. Really fun read and the ending is insane! I would recommend it.
A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena
Thriller
377 pages
Kate is a housewife living the life that many can only dream for. A beautiful home in a safe area, a loving husband, and a fulfilling career. But, when her husband, Tom, comes home from work to find her not home, the door unlocked and her purse left behind, he begins to panic. Soon, he finds out that she was involved in a car accident and suffering from amnesia, causing Tom to question exactly who his wife is. This book was a fun one, not my favorite but I did enjoy the twists throughout! 3.5/5
Weyward by Emilia Hart
Historical novel/fiction/gothic fiction
336 pages
Weyward tells the story of the Weyward women over hundreds of years. These women were known for their ties to witchcraft and their innate connection to nature and animals. We follow the lives of 3 Weyward women, each of them facing similar struggles in the world. We learn about the history of the line of Weyward women and the power they hold to take control of their lives and better their circumstances. I loved this book! Absolute 5/5 for me. The writing was great and I loved how interconnected the stories were. I’d recommend this one 100%
Quick Thoughts On My December Reading Log
For Christmas this year I got a Kobo Clara BW, so I’m super excited to read more books on it in the new year! I’m also glad I was able to read books from only female authors this month and was able to showcase some great stories.
I’ll keep this one short and just want to say that I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and let me know down below what you’ve read this month or are planning to read soon.
Until next time <3
