Who Else Loves Peppa Pig?
My daughter is the world’s biggest Peppa Pig fan (sorry Bluey). She is constantly watching Peppa Pig videos and playing with Peppa Pig toys.
So, when we were deciding on costumes it was obvious that she would be Peppa!
I also knew that I wanted to make her costume this year.
So with that, I had my plan to make a DIY costume: crochet a red dress and the matching accessories.
This made for a simple crochet project that didn’t take much time at all.
Here is what I ended up with!
Finished Costume
Here is the pattern I followed for the dress
This crochet pattern is absolutely stunning and super beginner-friendly! I plan to make some more stuff from her site soon. This would also make a lovely Christmas dress I think, the “berries” remind me of holly. Depending on your experience I would say this makes a quick crochet project.
Ear Pattern
To make the ears and tail it was also super simple! I free handed them both but I’ll show you how I did it. The ears and tail patterns would also be a fun way to get your kids involved with an easy crochet pattern for beginners.
For the ears I started with a magic ring. I’ve linked a really easy to follow tutorial if you don’t know how to do one.
To end each round: slip stitch into the first sc made and chain one. This makes a false stitch you need to skip every round after Round 1. I will also include stitch counts.
Round 1: magic ring, 6sc, (6)
Round 2: increase all around (12)
Round 3-?: 1sc in each stitch. I honestly didn’t even count the rounds, I just went until the ear was about an inch long. You can adjust to whatever size looks good to you. (12)
Final Round: decrease all around (6)
Leave a long tail and sew the bottom shut. Leave it flat and it should be about an inch long. Make a second. Super simple! I plan on attaching these in her hair with bobby pins.
Tail Pattern
The tail is even simpler.
For a tail 2-3 inches start with a chain of 15 and turn. Make sure to leave a long string when you start your slipknot.
Slip stitch into the first 3 stitches and then hdc (half double crochet) to the end of the row.
Leave a long tail at the end. It should look like the above picture. You can curl it up to make it curly.
Attaching to the Dress
Find a stitch in the back of the dress, in the middle a few inches from the bottom. Or wherever you decide to put it. Using a yarn needle, put the tail around on one side of the stitch and the other tail around the other side. You should have both strings on the inside of the dress.
Now do a simple double overhand knot. I kept it loose because I plan to undo it after Halloween. Then, simply snip most of the length and you’re done!
This was a really fun project to work on and I hope to be able to crochet many more costumes in the future! Consider following this simple crochet pattern to make the dress for your little Peppa Pig lover! Or Suzy Sheep.. Or Rebecca Rabbit!
Until next time, Happy Halloween!
